Lloyd defended clients accused of crimes in state and federal courts at every stage, from investigation through trial, sentencing, and appeal. He successfully represented those who had been charged by New York State or the Federal government in a wide range of criminal activity, including drug possession or distribution, weapons violations, embezzlement, fraud, and other White-collar crimes, sex offenses, sex offender registration, assault, trial sentencing, and other violent crimes.
He taught criminal law, criminal procedure, and trial advocacy at New York Law School and other venues for more than 30 years. Later in life, he taught regularly at trial, appellate, and sentencing advocacy seminars across the country.
For 40 years, Mr. Epstein obtained successful results for his clients, both through acquittals and through the negotiation of favorable plea agreements with the prosecution.
Highly regarded by his peers, Mr. Epstein was selected for the New York Metro Super Lawyers list every year from 2010 until his passing in 2021. He also received an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.
Lloyd Epstein was fluent in Hebrew and Spanish. He graduated from New York University School of Law, where he received the Ann Petluck Poses Memorial Prize before being awarded his Juris Doctor in 1979. Mr. Epstein was a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the New York City Criminal Bar Association. Lloyd Epstein was admitted to practice in New York State and federally before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Southern, and Northern Districts of New York and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit.
